Teens Without Borders
About Teens Without Borders
This initiative of The World Family aims to provide teens in Northern California high schools with the opportunity to learn from long-term, teen-led community development efforts in Ethiopia. Local high schools are given the resources and guidance to adopt development programs in Ethiopian villages through a multi-year program involving fundraising, project planning, cultural discovery, and and hands-on volunteerism. If the participating groups fully commit to their adopted projects and meet certain criteria, they may then be given the unique opportunity to travel to Ethiopia to set up their programs and meet the community members. The final product is a sustainable community center that includes a school, clinic, computer lab, and income generating projects, while also giving teens unforgettable life-lessons and valuable leadership experience.
Campaign Goals
Teens Without Borders will provide the guidance and opportunities for teen leaders in San Francisco Bay Area schools to do the following:
- Fundraise for adopted projects adopted projects such as computer literacy programs, an income-generating weaving center and bee-keeping project, a health clinic and medical laboratory, a micro loan fund, irrigation infrastructure, and scholarship programs. Participating teens will learn fundraising, communication and marketing, event planning, money management, and pitching skills.
- Gain and spread an awareness of the Ethiopian culture and the challenges encountered by those living in developing countries. Participating teens will learn cultural respect and a greater understanding of the meaning of global citizenship.
- Potentially visit the project site to set up adopted programs and volunteer with The World Family staff in the community. See the Participant Resource Guide (Link to PDF - COMING SOON) for project visit eligibility criteria. Participants will learn trip organization skills, how to overcome cultural and language barriers, and a multitude of unforgettable experiences!
- See results. Since The World Family is run entirely by volunteers, 100% of funds raised by groups participating in Teens Without Borders will go directly to their adopted projects in the field. Participants will receive periodical updates with pictures showing the effect of their efforts.
