Sponsor a student:

The World Family has identified students worthy of financial support. To be eligible for a scholarship, a student must come from an impoverished family and show academic promise. In Ethiopia, high school students take national exams at the end of grade 10. If they pass, they are eligible for grades 11 & 12, which is college preparatory school. At the end of college preparatory school, students take an exam to be eligible for college or university.

Sponsor information:

In Ethiopia both high school and university study is free for students who pass eligibility exams but students must pay for school supplies and related costs. Ironically, in Gara Dima village, university students will incur fewer yearly expenses than Gara Dima high school students because admission to university includes free room & boarding. Gara Dima, however, does not have a high school so students must attend in a neighboring town and pay for their own room and boarding.

Sponsor/Student Communication:

Sponsors of students will receive bi-yearly reports after each academic semester (2 per year) in which the students' academic progress is reported. In addition, students are asked to write their comments on school classes and on their personal life, in and out of school.

High School Scholarship Costs:

• $515 per year for High School Scholarships - High school scholarships cover transportation, room/board, school supplies and related costs.

University Scholarship (Basic or with laptop):

• $406 basic per year scholarship - Support for one year of basic College/university expenses, excluding purchase of a laptop computer.


• $1156 basic + laptop scholarship - Support for one year of basic College/University expenses, plus a laptop computer (laptop is 1st year only expense).
